The helmet surface should be cleaned after each ride with warm water and a few drops of liquid, neutral soap. It is important that insects do not dry completely. In the worst case scenario, these can leave slight scratches when removed. Never treat matte helmets with polishes or waxes.
For safety reasons, we recommend replacing a helmet after about five years. The outer shell is relatively resistant against aging. However, the material of the inner shell (EPS), which is substantially involved in the safety (shock absorption), hardens with time. There has also been much work on the development of helmets in recent years, such as the E22 homologation, visor quick-change systems, etc. – in summary it can be said that helmets now are safer than they were before.
Modern motorcycle helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible during an impact. Therefore after an accident they are destroyed. Even a small impact can damage a helmet. Often this damage is invisible to the layman. Every helmet involved in an accident should be exchanged.
On July 3, ECE 22.06 became a requirement for any new helmet to be homologated, a standard that demands higher resistance for motorcycle helmets and one that all brands must comply with. As far as safety is concerned, the ECE is considered a benchmark, as it consists of many tests and makes helmets comply with safety standards that are not required in other parts of the world.
In short, the DOT standards are the minimum requirements for motorcycle helmets sold as protective equipment in the United States. Called the FMV-218 rules, these standards are intended to ensure that a helmet provides significant head protection in the event of an accident.
Dual homologation means an ECE approved modular helmet that protects as both a full face helmet with the chin guard down and an open face (or jet style) helmet with the guard up. It's called P/J approved and these marks can be found on the type-approval label located on the strap of your helmet.
The new regulation will coexist with the existing one until the end of stock of the 22.05 models. In other words, if your helmet is homologated with ECE 22.05, you will be able to use it without any problem.
If you are buying AXXIS helmet the answer is YES. Helmets sold to our American market are homologated both according to the “Snell” standard and to the European standard ECE 22.05 or ECE 22.06. Therefore they can be used both in USA and in Europe.
The warranty covers the original purchaser of an AXXIS helmet and is not transferable. Your AXXIS helmet, while owned by you and subjected to normal use, is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of your purchase.
This warranty does not apply to a helmet that has been subject to any accident, misuse, abuse (intentional or otherwise), negligence, tampering, modifications or improper maintenance. In addition, fluorescent paints used in certain models of AXXIS helmets are not covered by this Warranty and may fade or degrade with the passage of time and the exposure of the helmet to the environmental elements. There are no warranties that extend beyond the limited warranty expressly set forth in this manual, and any implied warranty, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are hereby expressly disclaimed. No dealer has the right to modify the terms and disclaimers set forth herein.
If, within the warranty period, the helmet that you purchased is not in keeping with the limited warranty extended to the original purchaser and described in this section or in its manual, AXXIS shall, at its option, repair or replace the product or refund your purchase price. No payment will be made for any damages, including without limitation any indirect, incidental or consequential damages of any kind or nature.
To obtain warranty replacement, bring the helmet, along with your sales slip or other proof of purchase (and date of purchase), to the Dealer from which you purchased your AXXIS helmet. Please include a brief, written description of the problem experienced with the product, along with the model #, size and production date (found on the inside of your helmet). Please be sure to include your name, full address and daytime phone number. If AXXIS determines that the helmet has a defect in either material or workmanship, and the helmet is within the warranty period, replacement or reimbursement will be provided at the Selling Dealer.
